The e.l.f. Cosmetics x American Eagle Collab Brings ’90s Nostalgia to Spring 2023

When I was in middle school, American Eagle was the pinnacle of fashion. I’m a 1996 baby, right on the cusp of being Gen Z but considered a millennial. AE, along with other popular retailers like Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister and Aeropostale, established itself as the clothing destination for tweens and teens. I still remember being allowed to go to the mall for the first time alone with my friends and drooling over the cheesy graphic tees, classic blue jeans and coveted hoodies. Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of the “cool” girls always decked out in AE; my mom said they were overpriced, especially as I was still growing at that point and always needed new clothes. But the sense of nostalgia will never fade.

e.l.f. Cosmetics recently teamed up with American Eagle for a denim-inspired makeup and skincare collaboration that has me reminiscing about being 13 years old and imagining what I would wear and look like as a full-fledged adult. I can confidently say I’ll press “Add to cart” for all these goodies when they drop on March 30. Two superpower brands, one iconic collab.

The Denim Daze collection is inspired by tried and true jeans from American Eagle that always impress. The Denim Daze Eyeshadow Palette has 12 matte and shimmer shades with names like Mom Jeans, To Dye For, Cargos and Bell Bottoms. It even features an AE clothing tag on the side. Then there’s the Perfect pHIT Lip Balm, which turns from a dark-wash denim color into a universal pink for every pair of lips. The Get Cheeky Clay Mask, which is also packaged in a gorgeous blue gradient container, is formulated to boost hydration and refine pores. Finally, you can get the complete collection in a stylish denim carry-all beauty bag made from American Eagle denim.

“Just like American Eagle, e.l.f. is a team of disruptors who embrace the importance of ‘retailing at the speed of Gen Z,'” said Craig Brommers, chief marketing officer of American Eagle, in a prepared statement. “Our brands speak directly to Gen Z — we meet them in their closet, while e.l.f. meets them at their vanity.”
