I’m sure when you and your significant other talk about what to do for “date night,” it typically involves going out (and probably spending more money than anticipated). While I’m the first to admit that I LOVE getting dolled up for a night on the town with my fiancé, sometimes we just don’t want to leave the house. I’m here to tell you the best of both worlds is possible! Simply by creating your ideal date night atmosphere in the comfort of your own home! If you’re stuck on how to accomplish this, check out this list of some great at-home date ideas.

Cook a Romantic Meal Together

Who says you can’t have a restaurant quality meal in the comfort of your own home? While you may not be a professional chef, engaging in the process of making a meal can bring two people together and be a whole lot of fun. If you really want to spice things up, try taking an online cook class from Cozymeal. Together, you can learn to make handmade ravioli, sushi or even take a chocolate-making class. It’s a simple way to sharpen your skills and connect with each other.

Retro Board Game Night

There’s nothing like a bit of nostalgia and perhaps a touch of competition to bring a couple together. So grab your favorite childhood game (may I suggest Guess Who or Sorry), throw on some tunes, pour that glass of wine and get to playing!

Backyard Picnic

Enjoying the great outdoors with your other half, soaking in the sun, or moonlight, makes for a great, simple date idea. If you don’t know where to start, pick up your favorite snacks (may I suggest an assortment of cheese and crackers), grab a 6-pack of your neighborhood brew, find the biggest beach towel you have and voila! You’re on the way to making some great memories!

Home Spa Day

I know almost all my ladies would jump at the chance for a spa day. While spending it at your favorite luxe spa would be nice, why not make it an at-home spa date and share the relaxation with your significant other. Light a couple candles, throw on a facemask and get those relaxing tunes going!

Movie Night

I know, watching a movie with your special someone is very commonplace. What I’m suggesting is to really make it feel like you’re at the movie theater in the comfort of your sweatpants! Make that jumbo bucket of popcorn, splurge on the candy you only buy at the theater, dim the lights and most importantly put those phones in the other room to ensure zero distractions!

Wine Tasting

Now this is my type of date! An at-home wine tasting is pretty easy to accomplish, grab an assortment of miniature bottles of varying blends from your local wine outlet, or maybe there’s a shipment of wine coming to your doorstep monthly with a subscription service. If you’re like me, you also have more wine glasses than necessary so it’s easy to set up your flight. And to make it feel like an actual wine tasting date, throw on your best sundress or button up!

Create Your 5-Year Plan

This might be a bit of a stretch for “date night,” but hear me out! Sitting down with your partner, communicating your dreams and vision for the future can really bring two people together. If you need help getting a plan started, you can find resources for your specific needs. If it’s financial planning you’re looking for, see what the personal finance experts at Get Rich Slowly suggest for setting shared goals. If you’re looking to improve your relationship, The Couples Institute has a vision setting outline to help you set a positive direction for your future. Perhaps you find out your dreams are closely intertwined or perhaps you have different ideas that could use more discussion. Either way, truly listening and setting a plan for the future can make for a night of wonder.
