February is known for Valentine’s Day and all of the candy hearts, red wrapping paper, and Dove chocolate that come with it, but there’s another special holiday we can’t forget about: Galentine’s Day! This nonofficial holiday, which falls on Feb. 13, was created by the beloved Leslie Knope of “Parks and Recreation” to celebrate all of the lovely ladies in her life. This is a day to leave your husbands/boyfriends at home and brunch it up (or dinner it up, if that’s more your style) with mimosas and plenty of special gifts. As Leslie says, it’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst – plus frittatas! Keep reading for your guide to creating the ultimate Galentine’s Day party and showing love to your closest gal pals.
Sip back and relax with a wine subscription box
First up is the wine, obviously. Winc is one of our favorite wine subscription boxes that make it easy to get delicious, one-of-a-kind drinks delivered straight to you. First, you take a quick quiz to help the site assess your tastes, then you’re sent three bottles each month specifically tailored to your palate. You’ll never have to pay for a bottle you don’t like, plus you can skip a month whenever you want, free of charge. Bottoms up!
Get your favorite foods delivered through DoorDash
Wanting to keep the celebration socially distanced this year? No problem, that’s what DoorDash is for. Explore all of your local food joints, from breakfast to burgers to the best Mexican place around. There’s also convenience store delivery for oft-forgotten essentials like paper towels, straws, plastic silverware, or hangover remedies (no judgment here).
Treat yourself to a face mask
No get-together with your girls is complete without some self-care thrown in. The Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask is a two-in-one product that helps with oiliness, large pores, dullness, and uneven texture. It has hundreds of positive reviews on Sephora, and with rose clay part of the ingredient line-up, it goes perfectly with the night’s theme.
You'll need a comfy AF set of sweatpants
Sweatpants and joggers are my one true love. You can never have too many pairs, especially when you’re planning the ultimate lounge-fest for Feb. 13. Enter the Take Me To Bed Ribbed Lounge Set from Nasty Gal. The sweater is a ribbed knit fabric with drop sleeves, and the matching joggers are high-waisted with a drawstring closure. You and your girls will look absolutely adorable in matching sets.
Decorate to the nines
Now it’s time to decorate your space. The Hall & Perry Balloon Arrangement has gorgeous script balloons that can be used for both Galentine’s and Valentine’s Day celebrations. The kit also comes with four mylar heart-shaped balloons in rose gold and pink, 30 latex balloons in white, light pink, and pink, and a tube to blow up the mylar balloons.
Color hand-drawn cards and hand them out to your favorite ladies
Sometimes simple, hand-crafted gifts mean the most. Grab your trusty set of colored pencils and get to work on this book of hand-drawn, wholesome cards, which can all be ripped out and given to your BFFs. Use them on Galentine’s Day or any other day of the year! The cards feature sayings like “You brave, radiant unicorn,” “I like you a latte” and “I love you more than Leslie loves Ann.” Friendship goals.
