Subscription boxes are all the rage right now. Makeup, skincare, wine, dog toys, books, meal prep kits – you name it, it’s out there waiting to be delivered right to your door. You’ve probably heard of FabFitFun starter boxes (and regular-sized ones, too) and may find yourself wondering how to get your hands on one. FabFitFun was founded in 2010 by Katie Kitchens, Michael Broukhim, and Daniel Broukhim. The company began as an online magazine for women, but three years in, the founders decided to switch focus and actually deliver the products they were raving about to their subscribers. The first boxes were sent to 2,000 members in 2013, and the rest is history.
Every FabFitFun box is curated for a specific season, meaning four are sent out each year. You can choose between two different subscriptions, annual and seasonal. No matter what, you’ll be getting a mixture of six to eight full-size beauty, wellness, fashion, fitness, home, and/or tech items in adorable packaging. Seasonal members can customize a few of their items each season, while annual members can hand-select each product in every box. Customers can also browse add-ons for purchase, which are products and brands from past boxes as well as brand-new items.
Contrary to popular belief, starter boxes aren’t an actual subscription within the FabFitFun system and can’t be purchased individually. Full-fledged members will occasionally get the option to send these special packages to friends who are new to FabFitFun. They’re a sneak peek into what you’ll get if you choose to snag a subscription of your own. Recipients will only need to pay for the cost of shipping, which is only $5 for most states. Every starter box is valued at around $75 and comes with three to four full-sized products.
Once your friend redeems the special offer, they can either continue the trial run and be automatically billed $49.99 for their first seasonal box or cancel within 21 days of receiving the starter box. Don’t fret, FabFitFun sends a reminder before they’re charged for the seasonal box!
As I mentioned earlier, new customers get to choose from two different subscription plans:
1.) Seasonal – $49.99 per season. It automatically renews every season unless you choose to cancel before the billing date. If you change your mind and decide to become an annual member, you can upgrade at any time.
2.) Annual – $179.99 upfront for your first four boxes. You won’t be charged again until one year later, when your annual term officially ends. It automatically renews unless, of course, you decide to cancel before the renewal date. Annual members are in the first billing group, so your boxes will be shipped during the first shipping window.
FabFitFun posts exact dates for add-ons, customization, billing, processing, and shipping for each season. The boxes generally ship within one month of successful billing. You’ll be emailed a link with a tracking number once your goodies leave the California warehouse.

FabFitFun boxes are released when the seasons change. So in general the spring box will be shipped out in February-March, the summer box ships in May-June, the fall box ships in August-September, and the winter box in November-December. Of course actual delivery windows depend on a mix of factors including membership status or plan style, customizations, exact location and shipping delays and other such potential complications.
